Athaliah declared herself queen and tried to kill all her relatives after her son Ahaziah had died. But a priest named Jehoiada hid one of Ahaziahs sons in the Temple for six years. Then he carefully arranged to have Joash crowned king and Athaliah killed near the Temple and palace.<BR>Jerusalem was destroyed by the Babylonians before the exile of the Southern Kingdom in 586 B.C.<BR>As David lay on his deathbed, his son Adonijah crowned himself king at En-rogel outside Jerusalem. When the news reached David, he declared that Solomon was to be the next ruler. Solomon was anointed at Gihon Spring. It may have been more than coincidence that Gihon Spring was not only within shouting distance of En-rogel but also closer to the royal palace.<BR>.
