After David was firmly established in his palace, he honored his friend Jonathan by restoring Saul's property to Jonathan's crippled son, Mephibosheth. When David was first crowned king of Israel, his capital was located in Hebron, and he bore several children there. Later he moved his capital to Jerusalem, and he bore several other children in his new capital. Absalom crowned himself king in Hebron. David and his men fled from Jerusalem, crossed the Jordan River, and went to Mahanaim. Absalom and his army followed, only to be defeated in the Forest of Ephraim, where Absalom was killed.
