Luke stayed in Philippi while Paul, Silas, and Timothy continued on the Egnatian Way to Amphipolis, Apollonia, and Thessalonica. But trouble arose in Thessalonica, and they fled to Berea. When their enemies from Thessalonica pursued them, Paul set out by sea to Athens, leaving Silas and Timothy to encourage the believers. Paul's missionary journeys took him many places, but the church at Philippi was the only one to show him the love of Christ by sending him gifts and taking care of him no matter where he was, even while he was in prison.
