Abram, Sarai, and Lot traveled from Ur of the Chaldeans to Canaan by way of Haran. Though indirect, this route followed the rivers rather than attempting to cross the vast desert. At God's command, Abram, his wife Sarai, and his nephew Lot traveled to Canaan.
