This map shows the location of Acacia, which is mentioned in Hosea.
As the Israelites prepared to enter the Promised Land from the plains of Moab, the Lord commanded the Israelites to completely drive out all the pagan people living there.
Two spies left the Israelite camp at Acacia, crossed the Jordan River, and slipped into Jericho. The city was built around an oasis in the midst of a hot and desolate valley 840 feet below sea level. Jericho was the first major city the Israelites set out to conquer.
Because of his disobedience in the wilderness, Moses was allowed only to climb the mountains east of the Jordan River and look at the Promised Land from a distance. He would die before being able to enter it.
After the Israelites crossed the Jordan River and entered into the Promised Land, they celebrated the Passover at Gilgal, remembering how the Lord rescued them from slavery in Egypt.
