Jesus passed through Samaria on his way to Galilee; stopping at Jacob's well, near a place called Sychar. There he talked with a Samaritan woman, and through her, led many Samaritans to believe in him as the Messiah. The site of Jacob's well, now memorialized with a building over it, seen in this image, has been traditional for many centuries. Shechem is somewhat west of this well, and Sychar is somewhat east.
