In Bible times, most people, even kings, could not write. A political figure such as a king, or a wealthy man, usually had a seal with a specific design. He would stamp this seal in soft clay or wax to make an imprint that was his signature. Sometimes these seals were on rings. In this picture, the seal is a roller.
