Two men went into the Temple to pray. The Pharisee was proud and pretended to be holy, but his prayer was not truly a prayer. The tax collector, or publican, was contrite, begging for forgiveness, so his prayer was truly a prayer (Matthew 19:1-15; Mark 10:1-16; Luke 18:1-17).
